The Good, the Bad and the Nightmare Client: How to Spot Them & Drop Them

I’m writing to share new data from The “Bad Clients” Report by FreshBooks, which found that the top red flags that someone is going to be a nightmare client are “making unreasonable demands” (41%), “meanness” (34%) and “not paying on time” (1 in 4 respondents).
Clients who don't appreciate your work can end up harming your business – and sometimes you must make the tough call and let them go. Here are a few tips on how to fire a client the right way:
  • Finish any work in progress and don’t leave a client in the lurch.
  • Fire a client via email to make sure your decision is in writing and that nobody is put on the spot.
  • Follow up with a phone call to make sure the client understands that you won’t be working with them anymore.
Do let me know if you’re interested in learning more about how small business owners can better manage bad clients. I’m more than happy to put you in touch with Paul Cowan, Chief Marketing Officer at FreshBooks.
