PAWSITIVE CAFÉ, where dogs and humans come together to eat, drink and tackle mental health issues by means of informal animal assisted therapy, is opening in Westbourne Grove this April.

The brainchild of 25-year-old entrepreneur, Alicia Ung who suffers with mental health issues of her own, Pawsitive is the transformation of a final year student assignment to create a business plan for a pet café, into an actual business.

HAPPY HORMONES

Pawsitive Cafe realises Alicia’s vision of an oxytocin-boosting environment filled with dogs, owners and dog lovers. Here is served casual, healthy, fun food with a Malaysian twist amongst Interiors that are not just cool, bright and

colourful but have some immersive and amusing features from a tennis ball wall, to a swing for lulling doggies to sleep.

STRONGER TOGETHER
Together at the Pawsitive Café, a fearless and furry new community will create an informal hub for tackling the spiralling mental health issues evidenced in anxiety-ridden Londoners.

EASY TO ‘SPOT’

Situated on the desirable Westbourne Grove, Pawsitive Café’s exterior, makes a bold statement. Inspired by Alicia’s dalmatian, Domino, the frontage is painted from pavement to roof in striking black and white dalmatian spots.

INTERIORS

A light and airy colour scheme in pale blue and coral is chilled, welcoming and filled with the promise of furry new friendships. A huge tennis ball wall marks the central feature where dozens of tennis balls, hand-painted in pastel pink by Alicia and friends, are literally arranged geometrically on the wall. Meanwhile, dangling from a trompe-l’oeil golden archway, a real swing invites humans to gently lull their doggies to sleep.

Seating, eating and snuggling with your pets is fully encouraged on the gorgeous banquettes, while even the loos offer a photo opportunity with their Domino-inspired design.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER, ALICIA UNG

Motivated by the desire to beat her own anxiety issues while studying for a business degree in London, and having owned and loved dogs her whole life, Alicia planned a theoretical café where she envisaged people bringing their pets. This imaginary place was filled colour, light and with people relaxing and enjoying the companionship of four- and two-legged friends. Passing her assignment with flying colours, and encouraged by her tutor to turn the idea into reality, Alicia has transported an undergrad project on paper, to a high street in the heart of West London.

DOGS ARE THE. BEST MEDICINE

Research conducted by UCLA* found that spending time with dogs has proven therapeutic effects, and even just petting them can release an automatic relaxation response while research conducted by Bluecross** shows that pets can act as icebreakers and encourage us to meet new friends when we’re out and about.

According to Alicia, owner of Domino, her pet Dalmatian, dogs are the best medicine.
