INVITE: Larry's (Peckham) complimentary meal

"I’d love to invite you for a complimentary meal at Larry’s in Peckham.

Larry’s is the little sister in the Salon/Levan family having opened in summer 2020 amidst the global chaos. Serving Jewish, old-school Italian and Asian inspired food, the restaurant is inspired by late-night New York diners. It’s since proved itself amongst the thriving Peckham restaurant scene as a local favourite. Please see details in press release below."

Larry’s: A Peckham Favourite
Open days, open nights

Larry’s serves up a menu of dependably delicious food and considered, sustainable drinks, all day long. Opening amid the chaos of Summer 2020, the restaurant has since proved to be one of Peckham’s favourite late night spots.

Nestled next to sister restaurant, Levan, Larry’s is a prime location in Peckham Rye’s thriving restaurant/bar scene. It takes inspiration from the diners and corner bars of New York which is reflected in the interior, and of course across the menus. Just as with these NYC spots, Larry’s is open late throughout the week and into the weekend for cocktails and a glass or two of natural wine.

Fuss-free food, big on flavour and personality is the sentiment at Larry’s. Inspired by some of the diverse cultures with decades of history in New York, it brings together old-school Italian-American, Brooklyn Jewish soul food and backstreet Asian.

Start the day with fuel from Larry’s in the form of strong coffee and house-made bakes like sticky babkas or sausage rolls. Conveniently located next to Peckham Rye station, it’s a go-to for commuters and locals. Come lunchtime, the kitchen rustles up a changing selection of snacks, fresh pastas and deli-style sandwiches.

Evening is when Larry’s comes into its own. The dimly lit diner buzzes with guests enjoying an ever-evolving menu of sharing dishes and snacks. Beignets stuffed with mozzarella, nduja, salt cod or something equally as moreish, are not to be missed, even if just popping in for a glass of wine. Pasta is exceptional at Larry’s, made fresh daily and served with house-made sauces such as chicken liver and nduja or greens, chilli and sage. Another dish to share is the crispy pork schnitzel accompanied by fresh, zingy slaw and Gochujang. Veggie and gluten-free diets are catered for with plates such as roast pumpkin, taleggio, black beans and crispy kale, which can also be made vegan. Desserts like apple pie, chocolate sorbet or Larry’s favourite, the caffeine-spiked affogato are simple and indulgent.

Spend a lazy (read: hungover) Sunday at Larry’s and a comforting brunch is served. Expect staples like soft boiled eggs served with Challah bread and marmite butter or Larry’s famous house granola with yogurt and compote for those with a sweet tooth.

To drink, Larry’s eschews a lengthy wine list for a more concise offering of natural, biodynamic wines. These quality house and guest wines from independent, low-intervention winemakers change regularly, with regions like the Loire and the Languedoc featuring side by side. The Big Apple inspired cocktails and beers are also kept simple. The menu features a pale ale developed by Larry’s in partnership with local brewery Partizan and artwork from the talented Alec Doherty.

As with next-door restaurant Levan, Larry’s is named after legendary DJ and pioneer of 70’s New York disco, Larry Levan. This makes the fun, informal atmosphere an integral part of the offering. The vintage Celestion Ditton soundsystem plays music late into the night, perfect for dinner followed by cocktails.

Interiors, designed by Gundry & Ducker, are a nod to Larry Levan’s late 1970’s heyday; tables are topped with orange laminate, surrounded by banquettes and reclaimed green Eames chairs. Day-to-day life at Larry’s revolves around a central bench made from Carrara marble, used for pastries and baked goods in the morning, rolling pasta in the afternoon, and communal dining in the evening. In true New York deli style, the menu is displayed on lightboxes positioned above the counter.
