18th October 2022

A building materials marketplace has revealed a list of the most nutritional fast food options, based on favourites as voted for by tradespeople.

After conducting a survey to find out which fast food options tradespeople favour the most, the marketplace partnered with a professional nutritionist to discover which of the favourites hold the most nutritional value overall. The McDonald’s Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap with Fries takes the top spot in the list, followed by the Seven Layer Burrito from Taco Bell and a Greggs Chicken-Free Baguette.

Each meal was given a score out of five, based on how the calories, fats, salt and sugar content of each item measured up against the daily recommended levels for adults.

I have copied in the release below which includes the list of the most nutritional fast food options, as well as the methodology and a guide from the nutritionist on how to make healthy food choices when looking for a quick meal.

If you have any further questions please let me know, alternatively if this is not one for you please do let me know and I'll remove you from my outreach list.

All the best,Olivia (signature under release)

Feel good on the go: Nutritionist reveals most nutritional fast food favourites

A marketplace connecting professional and hobbyist builders with materials suppliers has revealed a list of the most nutritional fast food favourites, with the McDonald’s Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap with Fries taking the top spot. The platform surveyed British tradespeople to find out their favourite fast food picks, and partnered with a professional nutritionist to reveal the most beneficial choice of meal. The list is made up of popular options such as Taco Bell’s Seven Layer Burrito, a Greggs Sausage Roll and a Meatball Marinara from Subway.

A marketplace connecting professional and hobbyist builders with materials suppliers has revealed a list of the most nutritious fast food favourites for tradespeople to grab on the go.

MaterialsMarket.com worked with professional nutritionist Adem Yusuf, founder of Nutriliant, to explore which fast food meal is the most nutritious, following a survey of 2,500 plumbers, builders, electricians and other tradespeople revealing the most popular convenience foods to eat on the job.

The most popular results were then analysed to assess their nutritional value and create a ranking of fast food favourites. Each meal was given a score out of five, based on how the calories1, fats2, salt3 and sugar4 content of each item measured up against the daily recommended levels for adults.

The top 10 fast food favourites - as voted for by British tradespeople - and their nutritional scores are:

  1. McDonald’s Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap with Fries - 4

  2. Taco Bell Seven Layer Burrito - 3.5

  3. Greggs Chicken-Free Baguette - 3.5

  4. Greggs Breakfast Baguette - 3

  5. Subway Italian B.M.T. - 3

  6. KFC Original Recipe Rice Box - 2.5

  7. Dominos Vegan Pepperoni - 2.5

  8. Subway Plant Patty Sub - 2.5

  9. Greggs Sausage Roll (x2) - 2

Adem recommends that as a general rule of thumb, adults monitoring their calorie intake should opt for a lunch ranging from 600kcal to 680kcal, between a breakfast of approximately 400kcal and dinner of approximately 1000kcal. The McDonald’s Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap with Fries came out on top as the meal with the highest nutritional value on the list, at 660kcal, 23g of fat, 2.6g of saturated fat, 2.3g of salt, and 10g of sugar. The Seven Layer Burrito from Taco Bell was found to be the second most nutritious fast food favourite, with a score of 3.5. While it is above the UK recommended salt intake per meal, the popular Burrito contains less than 500Kcal.

Adem suggests that while the list represents the most nutritional fast food options chosen by British tradespeople, and although the majority do contain high levels of protein, a supermarket meal deal would be a healthier and often quicker alternative to a fast food meal. He recommends a meal deal consisting of a chicken salad sandwich, fruit and a diet drink.

Adem’s other tips include considering how active you are when watching your calorie intake, and reviewing the UK’s traffic light labels to understand the nutritional contents of different foods.

Nutritionist, Adem Yusuf, said,

“It can be tough to make healthy choices that fit your nutritional needs when you’re out and about all day - especially when your hungry body is craving something quick and satisfying! If the goal is to pick the ‘healthiest’ foods, then I would always recommend preparing a meal at home, but this isn’t always feasible for tradespeople on the go.

“So, in the event that you’re stopping at a service station or passing a fast food restaurant, there are still opportunities to make smart food choices and pick up a meal that won’t leave you feeling sluggish or even hungry again in an hour’s time. I hope that the list above, along with my guidelines, can provide a good starting point for those wanting to make healthier choices while on the go.”

Samuel Hunt, co-founder of MaterialsMarket.com, said,

“We’ve all been there; you forget to prepare your lunch at home, or life gets in the way and you simply don’t have time. Next thing you know, you’re tucking into a Big Mac. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, those with active jobs in particular should be more aware of the fuel they’re putting into their bodies - because that three o’clock slump can hit hard!

“Our survey was designed to find out which foods tradespeople are reaching for when they’re constantly on the go, and by partnering with Adem, our aim was to provide plumbers, electricians and more with the knowledge they need to make the best dietary decisions.

“We hope this list provides tradespeople, and others with similarly busy lives, with a good indication of which lunchtime favourites are the most nutritious, and good fuel for their bodies.”
