Bridgerton sends searches for wisteria and roses soaring

press release of the day 07.04.2022

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is reporting a marked increase in online searches for Regency-style plants, such as wisteria and roses, following Bridgerton’s highly anticipated return.

Since the Netflix period drama returned to screens on 25 March 2022, RHSPlants.co.uk has seen searches for Wisteria spike by 58%. The vigorous climber, which brings a tumbling mass of fragrant mauve or white flowers in late spring, has become synonymous with the Netflix series, adorning the facades of town houses, garden pavilions and trellises on screen.

Another Regencycore staple, the rose, is also in high demand, with the RHS reporting a 52% upsurge in page views compared to the previous week.

Damian Powell, Head of RHS Retail, says, “It’s great to see a television series inspiring a new interest in gardens and plants, and the ‘Bridgerton’ style garden can easily be achieved at home. Climbers such as wisteria, clematis and climbing roses look amazing in full bloom against the front of a house, draped over a pergola or scrambling along a sunny wall, while patio or miniature roses planted in pots can quickly transform an outdoor space of any size.”

Additional ways to tap into the Regencycore trend outdoors include the use of decorative urns, pergolas and ornamental features such as topiary.
