press-release-of-day

    05th May 2021

May bank holiday is just around the corner – a weekend synonymous in the British calendar for holidays, city breaks and the hope of coming back with a golden glow. But in light of travel restrictions being enforced for a second year running, new research released this morning by Dove has revealed how important tanning is to British women and the lengths they will go to achieve a sun-kissed hue, and subsequently share how we can take control of our tans rather than relying on the unpredictability of the British weather!

    Key stats include:

    ·         One in four British women admitted that they deem a holiday a complete flop if they return home tan-less.
    ·         57 per cent of females admit they are happy as long as they return home from holiday looking bronzed
    ·         More than a tenth would be prepared to spend up five hours a day or more on a two-week holiday sunbathing to ensure they head home bronzed, with one in five women positioning themselves uncomfortably in order to tan evenly

    ·         34 per cent of women will start topping up their tan with self-tan before they even go on holiday

The research has also exposed why tanning is so important, revealing that having a tan has a positive effect on a woman’s self-confidence (42 per cent), withjust under half of women who say they feel their best when they have a tan. So with staycations being the holiday of 2021, one in five women are looking for other methods to get their glow this year, Dove’s Gradual Self Tan Body Mousse builds up an even, streak free tan so naturally that no one will guess your glow is from a can; and it moisturises your skin all in one step.

The full press release is below, which includes further stats and information around the Summer Revived Gradual Self Tan range. We can also share regional specific data if this would be beneficial for any pieces you are writing.

Tan-loving Brits share the lengths they’ll go to on holiday to come home with that sun-kissed glow

    ·         57 per cent of females admit they are happy as long as they return home from holiday looking bronzed.
    ·         More than a tenth would be prepared to spend up five hours a day or more on a two-week holiday sunbathing to ensure they head home bronzed
    ·         One in five will position themselves uncomfortably in order to tan evenly
    ·         Forty-two per cent put having a tan down as having a positive effect on their self-confidence, and just under half say they feel their best when they have a tan

London, 28th April 2021: It’s official: British women like to tan. New research from Dove - the UK’s best-selling gradual self tan range - reveals just how important tanning is to British women. Regardless of whether the break is in the UK or abroad, 57 per cent of women admit they are happy as long as they return home looking bronzed.

The study of 2,000 women aged 18-55 found a sun-kissed complexion is so important to 34 per cent, they’ll start topping up their tan with self-tan before they even go on holiday. And who can blame them? With easy to use, risk free products such as the Dove Summer Revived Gradual Self Tan Body Mousse, building a smooth, natural-looking, sun-kissed tan is quick and simple. Better still, it’s formulated with no guide colour so you can apply just before bed and this quick absorbing mousse won’t stain your bedsheets.

Once arrived at their chosen destination, Brits are so dedicated to getting a golden glow that more than a tenth would be prepared to spend up five hours a day or more sunbathing on a two-week holiday to ensure they head home bronzed. One in five will position themselves uncomfortably in order to tan evenly, and a sixth have even skipped a day trip or activity during a holiday, preferring to simply lounge in the sun instead. Unsurprisingly the most important areas for women to tan are legs (47 per cent), followed by arms (39 per cent) and then their face (36 per cent).

So why is having a bronzed complexion so in demand? Forty-two per cent put having a tan down as having a positive effect on their self-confidence, and just under half say they feel their best when they have a tan. It’s therefore no surprise that thirty-one per cent have returned home from a holiday and topped up their glow with a fake or gradual self-tan product.

And with abroad travel looking ambiguous for the second year running due to lockdown restrictions, of the 36 per cent that don’t think they’ll be heading on holiday this year, one in five will be looking to other methods to get their glow.

While tanning products can be associated with ‘fake tan fails’, Dove’s Gradual Self Tan Body Mousse builds up an even, streak free tan so naturally that no one will guess your glow is from a can; and it moisturises your skin all in one step.

Dove spokesperson Amy Rushbrooke, Assistant Brand Marketing Manager, who commissioned the research, said: "The results have shown many base the success of a trip away on their tan, and with staycations on the rise this year, the UK’s unpredictable weather may wreak havoc with our tanning plans. But while we can’t control the weather, Dove has a solution to control your tan.

Fake tans often have a bad reputation for leaving skin streaky, uneven and orange. But Dove’s Summer Revived Gradual Self Tan Body Mousse, part of the UK’s best-selling gradual self tanning range, builds up a natural glow to your desired shade after only a few days, leaving skin nourished and moisturised with no smell and no streaks. So, you can spend more time relaxing with friends and less time obsessing about a tan.”

So, forget about fighting for a sun lounger, or disastrous orange stained palms from a fake tan fail, and take the stress away from tanning with Dove’s Summer Revived Gradual Self Tan Body Mousse this summer.
