Give air travel a wide berth in 2020, and drive to the beautiful Dordogne instead. South-west France holiday rental specialist Simply Périgord continues to refine its portfolio of holiday homes across the Dordogne with the introduction of seven stunning properties for the forthcoming season. Among the new additions are: a beautifully-restored 17th century farmhouse within walking distance of the quaint village of Manaurie; a recently renovated Périgourdine-style property close to Le Coux; and a charming ensemble of cottages sleeping 12 in Savignac-de-Miremont.
 
Now with over 60 properties, from magnificent chateaux to bucolic farmhouses and romantic cottages, most with private pools and all affordable, the portfolio offers something for groups of all shapes and sizes. For those who can tear themselves away from their abode, there is plenty to see and do in the Dordogne, from discovering pretty villages, prehistoric caves, ancient castles and delicious regional cuisine to canoeing, golfing, hiking and cycling. NEW FOR 2020

Au Calme des Bois A lovely ensemble consisting of three cottages, all of which have been recently renovated to offer modern interiors alongside original stonework and beams. The separate accommodation makes this an ideal choice for extended families who would like to holiday en masse whilst enjoying their own private space too. While the cottages are grouped closely together, each still benefits from its own independence with kitchen/sitting/dining areas, private access and terrace. United, the property sleeps up to 12 guests: cottage 1 sleeps two; cottage 2 sleeps four; and cottage 3 sleeps up to six guests. In common to all of the cottages is an entrance facing the gravelled courtyard (perfect for boules) and a rear with French doors opening out to overlook the shared swimming pool, grounds and views beyond. Jardin Fleuri This charming cottage situated in the middle of four hectares enjoys far-reaching views over open countryside and maximum privacy. Outside there’s a gated, heated pool with loungers, a terrace for alfresco dining and extensive grounds to run wild in. Indoors there is a well-equipped kitchen/breakfast room, a cosy open-plan living/dining room featuring exposed stonework, beams and a traditional woodburner, as well as three bedrooms – two doubles and another with three single beds, great for children. Set in the village of Saint-Chamassy, this attractive property is well-placed for visiting the sites this lovely region has to offer. Chez Nelly With an extensive renovation recently completed, this large Périgourdine-style house now offers a modern kitchen, new bathrooms and a large open plan living area alongside some charming original features. A downstairs bedroom wing houses two double bedrooms, while upstairs there are a further three bedrooms (two double/one twin), sleeping up to 10 guests in total. Moving outside, the property is just as appealing with a summer kitchen boasting a built-in barbecue and covered dining area, an enclosed swimming pool with pool house, a table tennis table and large pretty gardens. The village of Le Coux is just a 3-minute drive away for all the essentials such as a bakery, grocery store and Tabac, or a few minutes further afield are the market towns of Siorac and St Cyprien. Price: One week’s self-catering rental costs from €1,630. Maison Forte Awash with history, this impressive 17th century property boasts twin towers, a tiny chapel and a dominant setting high above the little village of St Cirq. Gorgeous panoramic views, a newly-installed swimming pool, charming grounds, elegant interiors, enormous rooms and open fireplaces help to complete the picture. Comfortably sleeping up to six guests, there are two large double bedrooms and a twin – all with ensuites. Set in the commune of Les Eyzies, the Capital of Prehistory, there is much to see and do here, from tracing troglodyte settlements to seeking out painted caves and visiting the National Museum of Prehistory.
